Despite our Centre being remote, there is a lot to do - as long as you plan your programme. 

Below is a list of the organisations and groups in the area who can enhance your stay. There are also some useful links to local organisations.

St Peter's Chapel - Website

St Peter's Chapel is without doubt one of the gems of the English history and one of the earliest churches in the country, build in 654 by Cedd. This is located in Bradwell (6 miles from Asheldham). It is a site visited by people from all over the world and has a small car park 400m from the chapel.

Hunter Outdoors - Website

Hunter Outdoor Training runs courses across the country, based at Asheldham with offices/workshops in Leigh-on-Sea. Hunter will run courses from 2 hours to 2 weeks covering a vast array of outdoor expedition and survival activities for all levels of ability. Bradwell Outdoors - Website

This organisation is a County Council facility which provides a complete range of water sports and some land-based activities. Sailing, sea kayaking, windsurfing, power-boating, archery and high ropes all contribute to a very good day's outdoor pursuits. 

The Orthona Community - Website

A religious and broadly Christian-based community located near St Peter's Chapel (and also in Dorset). It is a contemplative centre, but very aware of its environmental responsibilities being totally self sufficient and eco-friendly. Orthona is also a residential centre.


Maldon is a thriving market town steeped in history - going right back to the Dark Ages and Norse invasions. It is well worth a visit to see an atmospheric port, historic centre and market town. It also has Madison Heights with roller skating and bowling facilities with a near-by swimming pool too. (Approx 12 miles from Asheldham)

Essex Wildlife Trust - Website

Hanningfield Reserve and Reservoir is around half an hours drive from Asheldham and has walks, bird hides, shops, places for refreshments and regular courses for the public.

Mangapps - Website

Manapps Farm is situated in Burnham on Crouch and has steam engines, vintage rolling stock, historic buildings and a huge collection of memorabilia.

Blackwater Leisure Centre - Website

Situated in Maldon this local leisure centre has excellent pool provision, sports, gym, archery and games.

Hyde Hall - Website

Hyde Hall near Rettendon is around 30 minutes drive from Asheldham and is over 300 acres in size and is a haven of solitude and horticultural excellence.

Marsh Farm Country Park - Website

Marsh Farm Country Park is owned and managed by Essex County Council and provides an enjoyable and educational day out. It is a working farm where you can get close to farm animals and also has adventure play areas for children alongside being near a country park which has excellent coastal walks.
